He literally took that challenge to heart. Went home and cried a lot, and decided that he’s going to “Take the challenge as an opportunity to learn and rediscover himself, and he did. 

The journey was not easy but he was able to set his sights to the final prize.

To be successful in the new place. You have to unlearn a few things from your culture.
